My Children Make Me Dizzy

Actual conversation... that took place in about 5 minutes... I'm exhausted from jumping from topic to topic.

Girlie: I want to go to Gam-Gam's house.

Me: Gam lives far away sweetie.

Boyo: 13 miles?

Me: Four HUNDRED and 13 miles.

Girlie: Well.... we could take an airplane there.

Me: Airplanes are really expensive, sweetie.  And I would have to buy 6 tickets.

Girlie: Well, just you and me could go and Daddy could drive up with Brother and the Babies.

Me: Hey, now, that is an id --

Husband: (interrupting) No.  Just no.  Not going to happen.  Forget about it.

Girlie: Well, if we don't go to Gam Gam and Poppa's, how is Poppa going to give Brother a Darth Maul light saber?

Boyo: I WANT A DARTH MAUL LIGHT SABER! I WANT A DARTH MAUL LIGHT SABER! WE HAVE TO GO SEE GAM GAM AND POPPA!

Me: Buddy, you don't get to tell people what gifts to give you.  In fact, it's rude to ask for gifts at all.

Girlie: But you can tell Poppa and Gam Gam.

Me: No you can't.

Boyo: Why not?

Me: Because it's rude.

Girlie: But it's GAM GAM and POPPA.

Me: NO! You are going to be polite children and say thank you regardless of what you get.

Boyo: But if I don't get a Darth Maul light saber, I will be so so sad.

Me: You'll survive.

Girlie: I don't think he will.

Me: Don't help Girlie.

Boyo: We should call Poppa on your phone and tell him where to buy the Darth Maul light saber.

Me: NO! We don't tell people what to give us.  It's not polite.  We say thank you if they get us anything at all.

Girlie: That's right.  Because the big storm came and people could only take food and clothes.  They couldn't take toys.  So they will be happy with whatever we send them.

Me: What are you talking about?

Girlie: The Sand Storm that was on TV.  You said we were going to send toys and money to the people when their houses washed away.

Me: Do you mean Hurricane Sandy?

Girlie: Um, I think so.

Boyo: Well, if Poppa buys the kids with no houses in the storm a Darth Maul light saber, I can play with it to make sure it works.  And they can keep it at my house.  That's an EXCELLENT idea.

Me: NO ONE IS GETTING YOU A DARTH MAUL LIGHTSABER!

Girlie: But Mommy, it's not for him.  It's for the poor kids who's houses are under the ocean.

Me: (to my husband) A little help here?

Husband: What?  I stopped listening about five minutes ago.

Girlie's Thanksgiving Story

"In four days, we are going to have a feast.  We are going to have a feast to celebrate Thanksgiving.  That is when the Pilgrims came to the Americans and ate the Indians.

In five days, we are going to decorate for Christmas!  I get to decorate the ornaments.

In six days, Santa comes!  I have been good and will get toys.  My brother has been bad.  Santa probably will forget about all the times he has been bad and give him toys anyway.  That is what happened last year.  I don't think my brother should get to have toys.  Santa should give me his toys.

Oh, and Santa comes because the Baby Jesus was born.  But the Baby Jesus doesn't get toys cuz he's a baby and babies don't do anything but cry and eat and poop.  And sometimes babies sleep.

And that is the story of Thanksgiving."

How Do You Explain The Trinity to a 5 Year Old?!?

I was explaining Thanksgiving to Girlie the other day.  I told her that the Pilgrims came over from England because they were a different religion than the English king.

She promptly asked if our religion was pilgrim.

I told her no, we are Catholic.

She asked what Catholic was.

I thought about it for a minute and then told her that Catholics believe God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all one person.

She then asked if she was 3 people.

I laughed and said, "No, honey, there is only 1 of you, thank goodness."

To which she promptly replied, "But when I look in the mirror, I have a reflection.  So there are two of me.  I just need one more and I can be God!"

Oh, boy....

Baby Gifts

Since BabyBug was born, my family has been blessed with generous gifts from friends and family... meals, baby necessities, spending time with my older kids so they don't feel left out, cleaning up my kitchen, taking my kids to school... a friend even offered to clean my house!

We are so, so grateful for the time and effort that our friends and family have given us.  I don't know if I could have kept my sanity without it.

And there was one present that made me break down and weep, I was so happy.

Our friends, Scott and Catherine, went to Costco and bought this:

All my kids favorite snacks!
Why was I weeping?

Because now I don't have to take 4 kids to Costco.

And then they brought out the big guns....

I may never stop crying tears of joy.

Thank you to everyone.
